To be responsible for the compilation, documentation, and entry of data for 100 percent of the metabolic and bariatric procedures performed and to submit accurate, complete, and timely data to the MBSAQIP Data Registry Platform.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)

1. Collects and analyzes preoperative, intraoperative, 30-day postoperative, and long-term follow-up data components for the program, through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record systems and through a coordinated effort with individual surgeon office staff.
2. Participates in data compilation for audits and (re)accreditation or site visits.
3. Identifies 100 percent of metabolic and bariatric surgery patients for inclusion in the MBSAQIP data registry.
4. Utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis.
5. Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the program.
6. Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process.
7. Ensures the accurate, complete and timely entry of data into the program's database to ensure continuous quality improvement, which will ultimately enhance patient safety and associated excellence in outcomes.
8. Collaborates with members of the metabolic and bariatric and general surgery departments to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects that may be identified.
9. Works closely with clinical and administrative staff and participates in at least two MBS Committee meetings annually.
10. Serves as an educational resource on the MBSAQIP Data Registry Platform.
11. Successfully completes the MBSCR online training program.
12. Periodically attends voluntary in-person professional development seminars offered at various annual meetings.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


• Excellent communicate skills both verbally and in writing.


• Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, physiology, and disease process is required.


• Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical support and be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers.


• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and standards preferred.


• Basic or intermediate statistical knowledge preferred.

EDUCATION

• Associates Health Information Required


• Bachelors Health Information Preferred


• Minimum two years of experience in a hospital surgery department, surgery clinic or with clinical research or medical records.


• Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required.


• Computer and Internet experience required.


• Knowledge and comfort with Microsoft Office products is essential for success in this position. (Word and Excel experience is required; PowerPoint experience strongly preferred).


• Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.


• 2 Healthcare/Medical Required


• RHIA - Registered Health Info Administrator


• RHIT - Registered Health Info Technician
