Overview

The RN Cardiovascular Device is a registered nurse who is independently accountable for the effective management and coordination of care of patients with Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device (CIED), pacemakers, ICD, and Implantable Loop Recorders. The RN will partner with the Electrophysiology (EP) team, Interventional Cardiologists, heart failure team, cardiothoracic surgical team, and other clinical staff throughout The Methodist Hospitals, to coordinate the care of cardiovascular patients with CIEDs. The RN will coordinate care in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. The RN will provide and improve quality patient outcomes for the patient and families for the Heart Clinic and Device Clinic in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)

 

Program Coordination and Patient Care:

  1. Conduct interviews with patient, family, and other health care agencies to obtain past medical records and social and medical history to assess their understanding of the plan of care regarding cardiac monitoring devices.
  2. Independently perform CIED interrogation in the outpatient setting
  3. Independently perform CIED interrogation and device/patient monitoring in the inpatient setting including MRI, Radiation Therapy, ER, OR, and inpatient units.

  4. Problem solve device function, settings, arrhythmia episodes, and interventions. Work closely with EP team and other multidisciplinary teams, ensuring quality CIED and medical follow up care.

  5. Analyze clinical data and compose written CIED management summaries, clinic visit notes, and letters.

  6. Communicate and problem solve with multidisciplinary team to solve complex patient care issues and CIED function.
  7. Educate patient and family regarding all aspects of disease management and diagnostic and device management follow up.
  8. Proactively review patient schedules to ensure efficiency in clinical workflows and identify and resolve potential conflicts.

  9. Ensure appropriate resources are available to support patient care and procedures in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  10. Educate patient and family on signs and symptoms that require a follow up telephone call or triage RN or MD Clinic visit.

  11. Collaborate with medical faculty, nursing staff, and other health care agencies to facilitate patient and family needs.

  12. Assist with accurate data collection and analysis to support Device Clinic charting platform, national registries, process improvement, and quality initiatives.

Professional Development:

  • Serve as a resource to staff referring providers and clinical staff, the cardiovascular and

    electrophysiology laboratories, and inpatient and outpatient units.

  • Participate in planning for seminars, conferences, symposiums, or any educational event related to cardiovascular programs.

 

 

Qualifications

Job Specific (Minimum Qualifications)

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge regarding quality improvement and standards of care within practice area
  • Experience in teaching patients and families
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to travel to local and regional referral sites to promote Programs
  • Organizational skills to plan, organize, and direct operational activities
  • Ability to problem solve independently
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)

Education

 

Associate Degree (ADN) in Nursing is Required

Bachelor of Science (BSN) in Nursing is Preferred          

 

Experience

 

3 years Nursing experience with emphasis on cardiovascular patient care, including telemetry monitoring is Preferred                                                        

3 years in Critical care and/or nursing is Preferred

3 years of experiene in Multiple cardiac setting - EP lab, Cardiac Cath lab, or ICU is Preferred

1 year of experience in Past pacemaker device management clinic is Preferred       

 

Certifications and Licensures

 

Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Indiana is Required

Basic Life Support/CPR is Required

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is Required

Specialized Certification:

Obtaining the Certified Cardiac Device Specialist for the Allied Professional (CCDS) certification from IBHRE ls Preferred
