Overview

The overall purpose of the job is to provide protective supervision to patients engaged in structured therapeutic activities within the milieu of the Behavioral Medicine Program. Tasks include; cognitively applying the identified goals to structure of the patient's behavior; to visually and acoustically observe behavior for opportunities to direct patients toward productive and more functional behaviors; providing verbal feedback to patients; and using verbal and writing abilities to effectively communicate with other staff upon observed.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)


  1. Accurately reports or documents upon patient behaviors to other team personnel at least once per scheduled shift.

  2. Maintains consistent awareness of Program policies and procedures, treatment protocols and individual treatment plans and consistently applies these to interactions of directing or guiding patient behaviors.

  3. Provides specialized services peculiar to the scheduled activity; recreation/play, art media/self expression, physical exercise in keeping with the Program schedule of events.

  4. Seeks and/or takes direction from senior professional staff in observing or directing patient behavior.

  5. Seeks opportunities to consistently provide patients with verbal feedback upon their behavior and its effects upon others.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated oral and written skills.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must be able to tolerate a wide range of emotional behavior.
  • Possess a mature and flexible personality in meeting unanticipated demands and priorities.

EDUCATION
  • Bachelors Social Services Required
  • 6 Milieu Therapy Related Required
