Overview

Under direction, provides technical assistance to surgeon by passing instruments, assuring the functioning of instruments, and keeping instruments free of debris during surgical procedures. Shares responsibility for patient safety in accordance with the policy and procedure for sponge, needle and instrument counts.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)

  1. Performs scrubbing duties, according to standards, for all surgical preparation, for all specialties, including but not limited to, General, Gynecology, Urology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, and Plastic/ENT.
  2. Sets up the operating room in accordance with instructions and physician special requests.
  3. Ensures the operating room is cleaned and set up for turnover to the next procedure.
  4. Restocks rooms with supplies.
  5. Notifies leadership if items are running short, or if there are any quality problems.
  6. Organizes equipment, and ensures equipment is placed in an orderly, neat and clean area, for use by physicians and other staff.

  • Ability to work under required deadlines and schedules, while being flexible to special requests and projects.
  • Ability to professionally handle stressful situations.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates a professional, courteous, and positive attitude.


EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required
  • Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program is required.
  • Surgery Technician Certification Required within 6 months of start date (upon verification of certification status, incumbents will be promoted to a Surgical Technician-Certified position).
  • Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification Required
