Overview

Under direction, to perform work involving the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of activities and program development for the Radiation Oncology department. Provides guidance, coaching, and counseling to the Radiation Oncology employees to ensure quality of care to patients is maintained. Responsible for the accurate administration of ionizing radiation therapy treatments to patients according to the physician's prescription, using a variety of complex techniques and equipment to perform these treatments.

 

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)

 

  1. Assesses staffing needs daily, makes necessary adjustments to provide adequate coverage, and prepares the necessary justification of additional staff as needed.
  2. Coordinates, guides, counsels, and coaches employees to ensure that services to patients are maintained at an optimal level at all times.
  3. Evaluates the effectiveness of services provided, and in collaboration with staff, devises improved techniques and methods of implementation consistent with national trends in the delivery of patient care.
  4. Serves as System Administrator for Radiation Oncology Information System. Ensures and coordinates insurance prior authorizations and pre-certifications and ensures proper charge capture.
  5. Ensures the orientation and training of Radiation Therapist on the proper use of all equipment and any new procedures instituted in the Radiation Oncology Department.
  6. Performs all radiation therapy procedures with linear accelerators and/or simulators, according to the physician's instructions.
  7. Interprets and implements prescription and treatment plan as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
  8. Positions patient for treatment and/or simulation, while using the correct radiation therapy techniques needed for patients of all age groups.

 

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of all aspects of oncology, including pathophysiology, prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Ability to work independently and function as a team member.
  • Ability to provide a kind, caring, and compassionate approach.


EDUCATION

  • Bachelors Radiation Therapy Required

 

EXPERIENCE

  • 3 Years Healthcare/Medical - Radiation Therapist Required

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURES

  • Indiana Radiation Therapist License
  • ARRT (T) Registered or Eligible for Registration through The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
