Overview

The Clinical Manager works to enhance staff development and quality outcomes in Behavioral health services. Responsible for daily operations of an assigned behavioral health service to include quality improvement, financial performance and patient satisfaction. Serves as a nursing clinical expert and unit leader in the provision of staff knowledge and competence. Works to identify, plan, implement and evaluate educational needs; performs competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development to meet the diverse needs of the unit.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)

  1. Performs the function of Director of Psychiatric Nursing for the Gero Psychiatric Unit as defined by the Medicare in order to meet criteria for exclusion from PPS.
  2. Demonstrates competence to participate in interdisciplinary formulation of individual treatment plans, give nursing care and therapy, and direct, monitor and evaluate the nursing care furnished.
  3. Performs the function of Director of Social Services for the Gero Psychiatric Unit as defined by Medicare in order to meet criteria for exclusion from PPS.
  4. Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of social services furnished.
  5. Coordinates, implements and evaluates educational activities to support staff on-boarding and ongoing competency.
  6. Incorporates regulatory requirements and best evidence into educational materials to enhance quality outcomes.
  7. Supports staff development with educational activities which include remediation, certification, mentoring, life support, TJC and HFAP requirements, product roll-outs, etc.
  8. Conducts chart audits to verify compliance with required admission, therapeutic modalities, discharge planning and treatment plan documentation.
  9. Manages staff to ensure quality clinical outcome measures.
  10. Supports efforts to produce optimal productivity and budgetary outcomes.
  11. Ensures patient satisfaction by supervising and evaluating the caliber of treatment and care of the patient.
  12. Provides clinical oversight to assigned patient population to include staff's competency and assignments.

Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Possess good interpersonal skills and communication skills both verbally and in writing.

  • Strong analytical skills and good organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to work flexible shifts as required.

  • Ability to use logical problem-solving skills based on the nursing process and hospital policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrates diplomacy interacting with staff, clients and the public.

  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting unanticipated demands and priorities.



EDUCATION


  • A Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university in Nursing is required, MSN preferred in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing.

  • Certification in psychiatric nursing or a related nursing field of study is preferred.

  • Bachelors Nursing Required

  • Masters Nursing Preferred

  • Three (3) years psychiatric clinical nursing experience is required.

  • 3 Healthcare/Medical Psychiatry Required

  • Licensed Registered Nurse

  • Certified Basic Life Support
