Overview

Responsible for the accurate administration of ionizing radiation therapy treatments to patients according to the physician's prescription, by using a variety of complex techniques and equipment to perform these treatments. Shares and coordinates key information through documentation and oral communication with members of the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)


  1. Interprets and implements prescription and treatment plan as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.

  2. Learns and implements radiation safety procedures and wears radiation monitoring devices in the proper location at all times while working.

  3. Maintains orderly and accurate daily treatment records and reports any discrepancies immediately.

  4. Performs all radiation therapy procedures with linear accelerators and/or simulators, according to the physician's instructions.

  5. Performs daily warm-up procedures on all therapy related equipment, evaluates and assesses treatment machine operations, recognizes machine malfunctions and reports them to physics.

  6. Positions patient for treatment and/or simulation, while using the correct radiation therapy techniques needed for patients of all age groups.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Newly graduated therapist candidates must obtain ARRT within one year of employment.
  • Registry eligible candidates must be registered (ARRT) within one year of hire date.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of independent action and exercise of judgement, along with a creative ability.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to verbally communicate clearly
  • Ability to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient age specific needs and to provide the appropriate service needed.
  • Must be personable, pleasant, compassionate, patient care oriented and promote a positive image of Methodist Hospitals.
  • Professionalism required at all times.

EDUCATION
  • Associates Radiation Therapy Required
  • Indiana State License as a Radiation Therapist American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT - Therapist) for experienced Tech; or Registry eligible candidates must be registered (ARRT) within one year of hire.
  • American Heart Association - Healthcare provider
  • CPR Certification
  • IN Radiologic Technologist License Indiana Radiologic Technologist License
