Overview

Under supervision, to perform work involving patient tracking activities on an automated and manual system, organizing patient medical records, and performing receptionist duties, as well as other related duties necessary for the effective and efficient operation and maintenance of Patient Care Units.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)

  1. Coordinates centralized communication for the nursing unit in a courteous and helpful manner.
  2. Transcribes and transmits patient tracking accurately via automated and/or manual system under the supervision of a Registered Nurse; confers with the nurse regarding scheduling patients for activities.
  3. Answers telephone/intercom system and patient call system promptly and courteously and takes messages accurately, using good communication skills.
  4. Makes calls and provides feedback to appropriate persons to facilitate patient care activities.
  5. Initiates and coordinates pages to/for physicians as directed by licensed staff members; maintains an updated physician call system; answers physicians' pages; receives and relays information accurately to appropriate staff members.
  6. Assembles and maintains patient medical records in an appropriate sequence; monitors location of charts, prepares charts/copies in anticipation of admission.
  7. Performs receptionist/hostess duties, greets patients, visitors, physicians, and other hospital personnel, assisting them as necessary in a cooperative, supportive manner.
  8. Process patient and unit charges and orders designated supplies and equipment via automated and/or manual system; receive and place items in their proper storage areas.
  9. Maintains organized filing system for unit forms and records.
  10. Maintains a clean, neat, safe and organized nursing station.
  11. Consistently acts as a role model in the orientation of new staff members to Ancillary Extender job functions.
  12. Assists nurse in the transportation of patient to correct room and return patient to bed in a safe manner using proper body mechanics.
  13. Assists with patient admission activities into PACU and discharge activities from PACU, including but not limited to; application of ECG electrodes and B/P cuff, assists with patient positioning, patient transportation via wheel chair or patient cart ensuring patient safety and utilizing proper body mechanics.

EDUCATION


  • A high school diploma/GED Equivalent General Studies is required.
