Overview

Under supervision, to perform work providing support of the Radiation Oncologist and Nurse Navigator and providing patient care, assisting with procedures, patient visits and exams and maintenance of patient flow.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)


  1. Assists in assuring patient follow-up processes, including labs, referrals and imaging have been completed prior to patient appointment.

  2. Assists with management of patient flow, ensuring patients are prepared in exam rooms, takes vitals and weight, obtains brief patient history and reason for visit.

  3. Cleans, prepares and stocks all patient exam rooms and workstations.

  4. Assists with the maintenance of essential equipment, instruments and supplies; assists in the care, cleaning, processing and inventory of all equipment, instruments and supplies.

  5. Assists with lab draws, obtaining needed insurance authorizations and other procedures.

  6. Coordinates patient appointments and daily patient scheduling practices.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • General knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the adult cancer patient undergoing or completing cancer therapy.
  • Knowledge of procedures for maintaining safety of patient.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficient operational knowledge of equipment and infection control in the Radiation Oncology setting.
  • Demonstrated professional courtesy and non-judgmental approach.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize a medical emergency and to provide care under stressful and emergent circumstances.
  • Ability to assess and interpret clinical data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's specific needs and to provide the appropriate care.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work with providers at all levels and with external parties.
  • Ability to respond to the patient's needs, and the ability to empathize and provide compassionate care to the cancer patient.


  • High School graduate or GED is required.
  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent General Studies Required
  • One (1) year of work experience as a Medical Assistant is required.
  • 1 Healthcare/Medical - Medical Assistant Required
  • Certified Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation
