Overview

Under direction, to perform work involving the operation of the Point of Care laboratory program and other Methcare activities. Maintains contact with other hospital Department Leaders and outside personnel. Interacts with the Pathologists and other staff.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)


  1. Regulatory Compliance: Ensures that all regulatory and compliance procedures, documents and requirements related to Point of Care testing are fulfilled.

  2. Training & Competency: Assures that the staff involved in the testing program have the required current qualifications and competency in place to perform the tests, assists other leaders in developing appropriate training programs for all testing programs.

  3. Policies and Procedures: Assures that the all testing processes are reviewed and approved by the respective Medical Director.

  4. Point of Care Oversight: Provides laboratory oversight, competencies, quality control, validation, applicable proficiency and data management to all approved Point of Care tests performed in the hospital by various departments, performed at any of the Hospital owned physician practices, and performed by other facilities that have a contractual relationship with the hospital, e.g., Pinnacle Hospital, Vibra LTAC & Hind Hospital.

  5. Methcare Program: Serves as a primary contact person for the Methcare Laboratory Outreach Program. Develops policies and protocols to establish a comprehensive Customer Service Program that includes regular evaluation of customer's needs, expectations and specific steps to attain such.

  6. Growth: Actively seeks new opportunities and develops specific growth targets. Develops and monitors an efficient specimen pick up and report delivery system.

  7. Financial Management and Evaluation of the Program: Maintains and evaluates the performance of the program based on revenue and usage and assures that billing and payments activities are properly recorded.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)



    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, considerable initiative, creativity, and accurate judgment are required.

  • Ability to maintain competency to perform moderate and high complexity testing accurately and in a timely fashion.

  • Ability to trouble shoot and resolve instrument related problems.

  • Understands Standards & Regulations related to Point of Care testing, including Joint Commission, HFAP and CLIA.

  • Knowledge of procedures for maintaining security, confidentiality, and integrity of employee, patient, family and other medical information.

  • Knowledge of basic business concepts.

  • MLT(ASCP) or MT(ASCP) or CLS(NCA) required.



EDUCATION


  • A bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university in a closely related field is required.

  • Bachelors Clinical Sciences Required

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in a laboratory setting or a closely related field is required.

  • Some supervisory work experience is preferred.

  • An additional three (3) years of similar work experience and a MLT(ASCP) certification can be substituted for the MT(ASCP) and Bachelor's Degree requirements.

  • Driver's license required.

  • 3 Laboratory Environment Required

  • Licensed Medical Technologist
