Overview

Directs and coordinates the administrative support staff, and provides resources for the medical staff to fulfill their duties and obligations as defined by federal regulatory agencies, bylaws, rules and regulations. Participates in departmental and hospital programs to identify opportunities to improve services, makes recommendations for quality assessment and improvement, and implements action plans as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the organization. Interacts with members of the medical staff, hospital, practice administration, and other organization leadership.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)

  1. Interaction with regulatory surveyors and works with the credentialing registrars to ensure all medical staff members are appropriately credentialed and privileged. Maintains appropriate and up to date records and ensures JCAHO standards compliance. Assists auditors with any requested information and prepares files.
  2. Develops department goals and objectives. Prepares budget information for the Medical Staff Office. Completes ad hoc reporting and projects as requested.
  3. Oversees designated personnel to ensure continued medical staff compliance with all accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  4. Collaborates with the medical staff, medical staff liaisons, and medical staff registrars on the maintenance of the computer database to record statistics for all approved appointees to the medical staff.
  5. Supports medical staff leadership to ensure compliance and requirements set forth in medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations.
  6. Oversees the orientation program for new members of the medical staff and new officers of the medical staff.
  7. Provides administrative support to various medical staff committees and maintains documentation as appropriate to comply with various regulatory standards.
  8. Supervises staff, interviews and selects, develops and mentors, completes performance evaluations, handles complaints, and takes appropriate corrective action as needed. Designs work, and directs medical staff, liaisons/coordinators and registrars in performance of job functions. Interviews, selects, hires, trains and maintains adequate staff.
  9. Provides support to the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Staff leadership as needed.                                                                  
  10. Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of methods, practices and procedures used in licensure process and credentials verification.
  • Knowledge of State, local, and JCAHO regulations and standards.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates communication skills both verbally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of people.
  • Must be able to maintain emotional stability and adapt to frequent interruptions.
  • Experience handling high volume physician credentialing.

  • Experience using electronic credentialing system.


EDUCATION

All post high school education must have been obtained from a recognized College or University.  Additional education or experience may be substituted for requirements on a year for year basis should the substitution not conflict with State or Board certification/license requirements.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field Required

 

EXPERIENCE

  • 4 years experience in Physician Services, Credentialing Management, or Clinical Services Required
  • 1 year supervisory experience Preferred
