Overview

Under direction to perform work delivering direct nursing care to a variety of patients receiving diagnostic and interventional procedures in both the catheterization and electrophysiology laboratory environment. This care involves pre-procedural, intra-procedural and post-procedural responsibilities. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care within the department including patient/family/significant other education.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)


  1. Assesses the physical and psychosocial needs of patients.

  2. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.

  3. Utilizes the nursing process to provide direct patient care in collaboration with all health care disciplines.

  4. Provides a nursing history of the patient, which includes a review of systems.

  5. Documents information within EPIC to provide a comprehensive nursing record in accordance with current policy and procedure.

  6. Implements medical management of patient care based upon physician orders.

  7. Demonstrates clinical and technical competence in administration of medication following current policy and procedure.

  8. Demonstrates clinical and technical competence in emergency resuscitation of patients.

  9. Demonstrates proficiency in using various types of EP/Cath Lab specialty equipment including but not limited too; Carto, physiological monitoring system, pacemakers, defibrillators, IVUS, ICE, pressure wire, contrast injector and any other new technology introduced as an adjunct for enhancing patient care in the EP and Cardiac Cath Lab.

  10. Verifies readiness of all emergency and monitoring equipment per policy.

  11. Demonstrates clinical and technical competence in performance of EP/ Cardiac Cath Lab related treatments and procedures including but not limited too: Tilt, Cardioversion, L & RHC, PCI, valve studies, diagnostic oximetry studies, peripheral angiography & interventions, pacemaker / AICD implants, electrophysiology studies and ablations.

  12. Prepares and calibrates transducers, oximeters and other equipment as required.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of; hemodynamic pressure recording/interpretation, sterile technique, EP/Cath and special procedures equipment and supplies, computer skills adequate to document nursing notes electronically.
  • Specific knowledge of radiofrequency ablation devices, CARTO cardiac 3D mapping, Cardio-lab EP monitoring system, cardiac stimulator, remote assessment of implanted device function.
  • Communicates clearly verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting unanticipated demands and priorities.
  • Demonstrates ablility to perform nursing duties in a crisis and guide ancillary team members.
  • Capable of functioning independently pertaining to patient care and equipment functions.
  • Ability to participate in planning and arranging work as a team member.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills using tact and diplomacy in interacting with staff, clients, and the public.

EDUCATION
  • Associates Nursing Required
  • Two (2) years of work experience as a Registered Nurse in an EP Lab, Cath Lab, or closely related field is preferred.
  • 2 Healthcare/Medical - Cath Lab Required
  • Certified Advance Cardiac Life
  • Certified Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Licensed Registered Nurse
