Under direct supervision of a registered/licensed professional or designated preceptor, to perform work involving the delivery of direct patient care in areas of radiology and/or cardiology. Provide support to the department to extend high quality care to our patients. Observe and perform proficient exams/scans/procedures in which a competency has been established and in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)
· Interacts with patients, physicians and co-workers in accordance with the Methodist Mode of Care and Conduct. · Participates in planning and arranging work as a team member, providing a variety of care, often under stressful conditions with a cross-functional team of nurses, technologists, and physicians delivering patient care. · Obtain pertinent patient history and provide education to patients and family on exams, scans or procedures when required. · Assist the physician or technologist/staff in room preparations for scanning and special procedures. · Observe and perform proficient tests, scans or procedures (in which a competency has been established) under the supervision of a registered/licensed professional. Complete needed forms on patients for approval by the supervising professional. · Operates all specialized equipment and utilizes necessary technique and accessories to produce optimal quality under the direction of their preceptor. · Implements all safety procedures when working with equipment. Learns and practices sterile technique when it is required and assists physicians with procedures alongside their preceptor.
· Transports or aids in transporting of patients to/from designated locations and preparing them for exams, scans or procedures. · Follows procedure for post processing of images under direction of their preceptor and assist the technologist in acquiring STAT readings when needed. · Learns how to process a patient through the hospital and radiology information system, and learns how to utilize the PACS system properly under direction of their preceptor, if applicable. · Keeps assigned work area clean and stocked, checks rooms and makes sure they are ready for the day, reports any low supply to preceptor and or Team Leaders. Supports room turn around in between procedures. · Answer department phone when necessary and aid the department in patient, nurse, and physician communications. · Perform other duties as needed and/or assigned. · Sets-up sterile trays and prep patients for diagnostic procedures by using sterile technique under direction of R.T. · Maintains a clean, well-stocked and safe working environment, checks and tests equipment prior to use. · Follows universal precautions and assists in assuring compliance by other employees and physicians. · Operates all specialized radiographic equipment used for angiographic filming and utilizes necessary technique and accessories to produce optimal image quality. · Follows procedure for post processing of images. · Implements all radiation safety procedures when working with radiation producing equipment under direction of R.T./R.N. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of radiology treatment modes & therapeutics with appropriate related equipment. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to present in pleasant professional manner for effective communications. Must demonstrate high level of discretion, integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in activities. Ability to use logical problem solving skills within the hospital setting while following established policies and procedures. Ability to work independently as well as with a team in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate flexibility in meeting unanticipated demands and priorities. Required to work flexible shifts as required with effective judgement and have the ability to act during emergency situations should they arise.
Education
All post high school education must have been obtained from a recognized College or University. Other majors or courses of study will be considered as meeting these requirements, as long as they are closely related to the essential functions of the position. Additional education or experience may be substituted requirements should the substitution not conflict with State or Board certification/license requirements.
